According to NBC 26 in Green Bay, William Henderson has re-signed with the Green Bay Packers. This news comes on the heels of Henderson visiting with the Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday. As the newscaster on NBC 26 said, "There's nothing like a trip to Minnesota to make you come to your senses."
As of 6:30 a.m. CST, I couldn't find any confirmation of this news on the Internet. I think the signing was too late to the hit the presses of the morning papers. Stay tuned for more information.

Offseason outlook: Tight ends
The Packers can't rest on their laurels regarding their tight end situation.
Bubba Franks is their unquestioned starter, but his age and injury history are catching up with him. In an interview with Larry McCarren at Fan Fest, Franks assures that he feels many times better than he did a couple of months ago. With the contract the Packers gave Franks, they are stuck with him for better or worse. Let's just hope now that he's getting healthy, it's for the better. He is a proven blocker and red zone receiver after all.
It would be nice if the Packers would part ways with David Martin. He can't stay full healthy, and he is unproductive. Please Mike McCarthy, don't let him wear the green and gold for another year.
Donald Lee was a pleasant surprise last season. I wouldn't say Lee is the future starting tight end of the future for the Packers, but I would have no problem with him being on the roster next year.
Tory Humphrey is refining his game in NFL Europe this year, but it's hard to say if he has a future with the Packers. We can only hope he does well in Europe this spring.
Good news for Packers fans, 2006 is a year that will be deep in tight ends in the NFL Draft. So, luckily the Packers could get a decent tight end later in the draft without having to spend a high draft choice to get a good one. The question is, can they obtain enough draft picks to be able to choose a tight end with so many other needs at other positions?
Look for the Packers to trade down and choose a tight end later in the draft. Good options later in the draft will include Joe Klopfenstein of Colorado, Dominique Byrd of USC, and David Thomas of Texas. Let's hope they slide.

Ryan Pickett could join Packers
"A league source said St. Louis nose tackle Ryan Pickett is talking to the Packers about replacing Grady Jackson.
"Pickett (6-2, 310), one of the Rams' three first-round draft choices in '01, clearly had his best season in '05 with 115 tackles and two sacks. He has started 59 of 64 games in four years," says the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Meanwhile, the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports that Pickett will be in Green Bay for a free agent visit today.

No more U71?
"Tackle Kevin Barry has attracted overtures from several teams and isn't expected back in Green Bay," reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal.
Reportedly, the Packers offered Barry a contract which his agent says was "unacceptable."

Marquand Manuel agrees to deal with Packers
"The Green Bay Packers reached an official contract agreement Saturday with Seattle Seahawks safety Marquand Manuel, following through on the commitment they made to him almost two weeks ago," reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The article continues, "A source close to the situation said Manuel will arrive in Green Bay today, take a physical and, if he passes, sign a five-year deal worth about $10 million. The contract contains a $2 million signing bonus."

Mike Flanagan considers other options
"Packers center Mike Flanagan, a free agent, is scheduled to visit the Houston Texans today and could be reunited with former Packers coach Mike Sherman," says the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
It's hard to say whether the Packers will be happy with the possibility of playing without Mike Flanagan. When healthy, Flanagan plays at a Pro Bowl level. Yet last season, Flanagan's play was subpar while suffering through a hernia. Will the Packers be content with Scott Wells as their starting center?

Bye bye Ryan Longwell
"Ryan Longwell, the undrafted long shot who beat out third-round pick Brett Conway in 1997 and became the Packers’ all-time leading scorer with 1,054 points, signed with the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday, the first full day of free agency," reports the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
News is that the Packers might be interested in Patriots kicker Adam Vinatieri. And the interesting thing is "Andrew Brandt, the Packers’ vice president of player finance, is Vinatieri’s former agent" notes Press-Gazette writer Pete Dougherty.

Injury update
According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Samkon Gado has come out and said, "My knee is 105 percent. It’s a non-issue."
Meanwhile the newspaper also reported, "Linebacker Brady Poppinga, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the 13th game of last season, said his rehabilitation is going well.
"Even so, he’ll miss all three of the Packers’ minicamps."

Commentary: Javon Walker
So Javon Walker wants out of Green Bay. Sounds familiar. Didn't we just go through this? Oh yeah, cornerback Mike McKenzie wanted out of Green Bay too. If I remember correctly, the Packers didn't budge, the player eventually reported and then later got traded.
Expect the same for Walker. Don't expect the Packers to budge an inch. They didn't with McKenzie, and they didn't with Walker or Grady Jackson last year. General manager Ted Thompson already has come out and said he expects Walker to honor his contract.
Walker will either report to camp, or he can sit out. The consensus listening to talk radio in and around Green Bay is, "Let him sit." If he plays up to his potential during the 2006 season, the Packers might even agree to make him a very lucrative deal late in the season as they have done in the past with other players.
By all means, let Walker seek a trade. If somehow he can find an offer the Packers can't refuse, then take it and run. But it is all just posturing on his end. More than likely, no trade will be made before the draft. And then either the whole situation will play out like the McKenzie deal, or Walker will end up playing.
A final note to fans and the media: Don't take Walker seriously! Ignore him, and don't report about any more of his whining. The more attention he gets, the more leverage he will have. If everyone would just laugh in his face, this situation would settle itself rather quickly.
