Johnson admits Packer interest

Heralded wide receiver Keshawn Johnson has retired to pursue a career in broadcasting, but he admits the Green Bay Packers were one team he was considering signing with.

"Reggie McKenzie did a terrific job in trying to persuade us at some point in time to take a look at the Green Bay Packers," Johnson said in a conference call with reporters.

Bob Wolfley of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports, "Besides the Packers, Johnson said teams expressing interest in him were the Tennessee Titans, Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots. He said a few other teams were interested as well, but he did not name them."

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy had previously said that Johnson would be a good fit for the team's offense.

The Packers, though, are probably better off without Johnson. He's a tall, cagey veteran, but he's not fast by any means. At the price he would have commanded, he wouldn't have been worth it to the team.

He's not worth the trouble.
