The Green Bay Packers clinched a first round bye in the NFL playoffs on Sunday with a win over the St. Louis Rams and a loss by the Seattle Seahawks.
Perhaps the bigger news is that the Packers are a step closer to earning home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
"The Cowboys' loss to the Eagles means the Packers are almost as close to playing at Lambeau Field as they were the night they walked into Texas Stadium," writes Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "The difference is that they do not control their own destiny and need the Cowboys to lose one of their final two games on the road against Carolina and division rival Washington."
Perhaps the best news is that Dallas's final two opponents got some momentum heading into the final weeks of the season with big wins over teams with winning records.
Carolina beat the NFC West leading Seattle Seahawks while Washington beat the New York Giants on the road on Sunday Night Football. That should give both of those teams a boost.
Stay tuned.
