I'm feelin' pretty good about myself after the Shrine game preview written yesterday (see below).
As predicted, one of the players to watch was San Diego quarterback Josh Johnson (pictured). I'm telling you folks, Johnson is one exciting player and will be shooting up draft boards. He earned Shrine game MVP honors as he finished 5 for 11 for 78 yards and a touchdown, and while those stats might not be overwhelming, he also had 3 carries for 91 yards. It should be noted that a couple of his passes were dropped too.
He's an electrifying player, and in my own personal opinion, he deserves to be drafted as high as the third round if not higher. He's tall, but he's mobile. He's a good passer, and he has poise in the pocket. He's got a big frame, and he could stand to put on a little weight, but it will come in time. With a little bit of seasoning, this guy could be the future of the NFL.
Also impressive was Utah State wide receiver Kevin Robinson. He had four catches for 28 yards and a touchdown. And he also had a 72 yard punt return for a TD as well. He showed he's worth drafting as a return man and a reserve wide receiver.
Finally, South Carolina's Cory Boyd showed that he was the best running back in the Shrine game. He hits the hole hard unlike some of the other backs who did too much dancing in the backfield. He had a touchdown to show for his efforts even though he played on an overmatched East squad.
