Cole & Morency receive tenders

Defensive tackle Colin Cole's value just got a whole lot higher with the departure of Corey Williams via trade to the Cleveland Browns.

Cole and Vernand Morency look to stick around with the Green Bay Packers in 2008 after they received tenders.

Greg Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports, "DT Colin Cole (second round) and RB Vernand Morency (third) have been tendered by the team as restricted free agents. Cole's high tender means that he's very valuable after the Packers agreed to ship Corey Williams to the Cleveland Browns."

Cole figures to play behind Ryan Pickett, Johnny Jolly and Justin Harrell next season but he provides good depth at a position that needs it, maybe requires it.

It's not yet guaranteed that the Cole will stay with the Packers, but another team would have to give up a second round draft choice to sign him, which would seem unlikely.

Morency was also tendered, albeit a lower tender that would require a team to give up a third round draft choice to sign him.

The Packers had little to lose in signing Morency. If he helps them, great. If he doesn't, no big loss. Here's to hoping those games of 2006 in which Morency could gain over 100 yards in a game come back.
