Railbird Central first reported on the Green Bay Packers' potential interest in Chicago Bears linebacker and Pro Bowl special teams player Brendon Ayanbadejo back during the all-star game in Hawaii.
It appears as if the rumor is growing some legs.
Even the Chicago Tribune acknowledged that the Packers coaching staff was schmoozing Ayanbadejo in Honolulu.
Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune writes, "During his trip to Hawaii, Ayanbadejo actually bonded with some of Green Bay's coaching staff. Packers defensive end Aaron Kampman even approached Ayanbadejo during the week and said, 'You'd love it in Green Bay.'"
According to the article, Ayanbadejo wants to go to a place where he has a chance to play on defense as well as special teams. The Packers are thin at outside linebacker. They may or may not have a spot open on defense depending on the play of Brady Poppinga, but Ayanbadejo could be a top backup in case anyone got hurt.
And based upon his play making ability to make tackles on special teams and hustle downfield, Ayanbadejo might be a better linebacker in pass coverage than Poppinga or other linebackers in the Packers' organization.
