According to respected NFL Draft guru Gil Brandt over at NFL.com, the Green Bay Packers sent a coach to the Arkansas pro day workout yesterday.
"With very windy conditions outside, workouts were forced indoors on field turf," writes Brandt. "Twenty-six teams were on hand, including Bears head coach Lovie Smith and coaches from the Packers, Panthers, Rams and Jets."
Teams seem to be a little more serious about a prospect when they send a coach to pro day workouts rather than just a scout. This could be an indication that there is a player at Arkansas the Packers are serious about drafting.
The Arkansas pro day got a lot of attention because of Darren McFadden, but the Packers certainly aren't going to be in the running to get him. But they could be interested in his backfield mate Felix Jones, who is expected to go late in the first round.
Brand reports, "(Jones) had a 34½-inch vertical jump, 13 reps in the bench press, ran position drills and kept his numbers from the combine for everything else. He caught the ball well."
If the Packers aren't looking at the running back position, they could be looking at the Arkansas defensive backs. The Razorbacks have three players in the secondary that could be drafted in Matterral Richardson, Michael Grant and Matt Hewitt (pictured in air).
Hewitt had a good day according to the guys at TFY draft, "In the early going underrated safety Matt Hewitt has looked solid. Hewitt measured 6'2"/219lbs, completed 15 reps on the bench, posted a 35-inch vertical jump and 10'7" broad jump."
Other players working out for Arkansas included wide receiver Marcus Monk, defensive lineman Marcus Harrison and offensive lineman Robert Felton.
