Green Bay Packers long snapper Rob Davis officially retired today marking the end of an 11 year career.
Only Brett Favre and Forrest Gregg played in more consecutive games in a Packers uniform than Davis.
Davis will step into the Packers' front office as expected.
"We're looking forward to having Rob evolve into his new role within our organization," Packers general manager Ted Thompson said. "He's been a tremendous contributor as a player and I have no doubt that he will carry that commitment and enthusiasm to his position. He is someone who has always been respected as a leader and mentor in the locker room and we know that will continue."
Thomas Gafford was recently signed by the Packers as a free agent to compete for now vacant long snapping job. It's likely the Packers will bring in at least one more free agent or rookie for a little training camp competition.
