Gray visits Packers

Free agent quarterback Quinn Gray took a visit to Green Bay today to meet with the Packers as they explore what they're going to down at the quarterback situation now that Brett Favre has retired.

Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writes, "NFL Network reported that Gray was in Green Bay and was being considered for a backup job behind Aaron Rodgers. The NFL's official personnel wire did not list Gray under official visits Monday, so it's logical to assume he's visiting this morning."

The report goes onto state that Gray will also be visiting the Oakland Raiders so the Packers are in competition for his services.

Now that Trent Green is out of the question, don't be surprised if the Packers push harder for Gray. Unless the Raiders can offer a starting opportunity for Gray (and they can't), there's no reason Gray wouldn't love the situation he's stepping into in Green Bay.

Also consider that Gray is a right handed quarterback as opposed to fellow free agent, Mark Brunell.

The southpaw may be less of an option for the Packers than what people may think. For a guy who might only have a year or so left in him, the Packers would hate to put a lot of time and effort conforming their offense to a lefty.
