Thompson wins award

Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson has won the NFL's executive of the year by the Sporting News.

"Thompson received 19 of 48 votes cast by NFL general managers and other executives," reports the Associated Press. "He beat out Giants GM Jerry Reese, who received nine votes."

Will this quiet the numerous critics of Thompson in and around Green Bay? It's hard to say. It seems as if they feel snakebitten by the drafting of Justin Harrell as the number one of the Packers last year, and they just can't get over that.

The fact is that under Thompson the Packers have gone from a 4-12 team to the NFC Championship game in very little time.

Thompson has also shown that a team can have success and be fiscally responsible at the same time.

Kudos.
