The Green Bay Packers are reportedly showing heavy interest in Nebraska wide receiver Maurice Purify (pictured) in the weeks leading up the NFL Draft that starts April 26.
Purify transferred to Nebraska after starting off as a JuCo player. While in Bill Callahan's system for the Huskers, Purify became used to a West Coast style offense.
When asked about which teams he interviewed with at the college all-star game in Hawaii at the Hula Bowl, Purify replied, "The Green Bay Packers, I talked to one of their scouts almost everyday. First it was just about football and running routes and stuff. But as the week went on we talked about life and my goals and just little stuff like that. So the Packers definitely showed the most interest in me, I think we really hit it off."
Purify had some off the field troubles while at Nebraska, but recently tried to downplay those issues.
Purify said, "Yeah, my reputation of being a bad guy isn’t real, like I said I was just being a college kid, I had some alcohol and that’s what got me in trouble. I am not an alcoholic and I think the scouts realize that college kids sometimes make mistakes. They have all been there and they know what it is like, and I think they realize that I am not a bad person."
Purify is a player Packer fans will want to keep tabs on in the coming weeks.
