With rookie orientation camp now concluded, we have enough links for an entire tailgate party. Find out the lowdown on what happened at the Don Hutson Center over the weekend:
- The Packers have signed at least one tryout player, Arkansas defensive tackle Fred Bledsoe. McCarthy hinted that the Packers could sign up to as many as four tryout players total.
- University of Wisconsin-Whitewater running back Justin Beaver impressed head coach Mike McCarthy at one point prompting the coach to call him "quick as a hiccup." It's possible the Packers may sign him, although there's no word as of yet.
- Seventh round draft choice Brett Swain was has been compared to Wes Welker and Ricky Proehl. Packers general manager Ted Thompson was the one who made the comparison to Welker.
- Second round draft choice Patrick Lee can jump over a Volkswagon Beetle. Supposedly he can jump and that also makes him a good bet to be on the extra point block teams coming off the edge.
- We find out that newly signed linebacker Brandon Chillar was the roommate of current Packers linebacker Spencer Havner in college.
- The Packers are taking a chance on Georgia running back Kregg Lumpkin, a five star prospect going into college. He certainly showed promise and production in limited appearances, but he had a hard time staying healthy.
- The 19 players the Packers have in for a tryout pales in comparison to other teams around the league including the Cleveland Browns who have 54 players in for a tryout this weekend.
- The Packers can afford to wait with most of their rookies, but they'll be counting on Jermichael Finley and Patrick Lee to produce this year.
- Former Wisconsin punter Kenny DeBauche will be pushing Jon Ryan for a job come training camp.
- Rookie free agent and tight end/H-back Michael Peterson's tenaciousness is compared to that of linebacker Brady Poppinga. And he enjoys being a wedge buster on the kickoff unit.
- Undrafted rookie wide receiver Jake Allen is called a skinnier version of Plaxico Burress.
