Any thoughts that the Green Bay Packers will be interested in signing or trading for a veteran quarterback to back up Aaron Rodgers this year can be dashed.
According to Adam Schein of Sirius NFL Radio and FOXSports.com, "Packers coach Mike McCarthy told us on Friday that the team is not in the market for a veteran quarterback. This is Aaron Rodgers' team and he will be backed up by two neophytes in Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn. Brohm is a perfect fit in McCarthy's system."
It looks like any hopes of Daunte Culpepper, Craig Nall, Tim Rattay or any other veteran quarterback in a Packers' uniform are done. But that's not necessarily a bad thing.
An injury incurred during training camp could change that in a second. But for now, the Packers may be going with one of the youngest quarterback corps in the league.
And speaking of Packer quarterbacks, there appear to be some rumors about Brett Favre having a role on FOX.
Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Barry Switzer spoke to Scout.com about his possible role on FOX's studio show and mentioned Favre in the process.
“Well, they’re talking to Favre,’’ Switzer told Scout.com. “I still think they want me involved in some way. But with Brett. … they might pair him in a segment with (Terry) Bradshaw, I don’t know. … It’s a lot of fun for me, but there’s only so much time (available) on that show. And, hey, he’s Brett Favre!’’
So it doesn't look like they're looking for Favre to be in an announcing booth or hosting the studio show. The way this looks, Favre's involvement will be minimum.
