Ever since DeShawn Wynn joined the Packers he has flashed enormous potential. Wynn has the proper measurements to be a successful back in this league 5-10, 230 or so and 4.45 speed in the forty. So why isn't the opportunity of a lifetime going all the way upstairs to his brain. DeShawn flashed that ability in his rookie year against the Chicago Bears. The Packer offense lined up and DeShawn Wynn ran the ball right up the gut for forty yards against a stingy Bears defense. But what was illogical was what happened following that play. Instead of staying in for the next offensive play DeShawn decides to take a breather on the sidelines on one of the riding bikes.
Another example of DeShawn Wynn's ability was on display in the Packers second game last season against the New York Giants. The play in questioned was a simple dump off pass on the left side of the field, in which Wynn sprinted thirty two yards to pay dirt. Rest of the game did not hear a beep out of him.
Edgar Bennett was stated as saying, that even though DeShawn Wynn may have had one of the best off seasons in recuperating his shoulder injury. He still has to prove that he is available and accountable for the Packers to consider him part of this season's roster. In being asked if a year of seasoning mature Wynn, Bennett replied, "Some, but he has to be consistent," Bennett said. "It has to be to the point where it is time in and time out, we see it day in and day out. It can't be, we're going to do it one time now and then we're not going to do it this time. That's part of being a pro."
Examples of this type of behavior were just recently noticed when running back DeShawn Wynn bobbled a swing pass during individual drills and then dropped a pass in the end zone. That type of off again on again execution is clearly got the Packers thinking in other directions. One option might be the free agent pick up of Kregg Lumpkin. If Kregg Lumpkin or any of the other backs make a consistent display of what Mike McCarthy is looking for. Then it is very possible Green Bay will lose patience with DeShawn and just cut ties with him.
Then again its possible an eleventh hour trade might happen for one of these possible available backs below. Running backs like Cincinnati Bengal's DeDe Dorsey, Houston’s Darius Walker, and the Buffalo Bill’s Dwayne Wright.
Now there is a back who might be available and is a step above the other backs mentioned if the price is right. That running back would be Chris Henry from the Tennessee Titans. Chris Henry had better combine numbers then Adrian Peterson of the Vikings but because the Titans who have Chris Henry drafted another running back in the first round, Chris Johnson. Plus the fact that LenDale White ran over a thousand yards puts Henry at a disadvantage in the depth chart. So the Titans could decide he is more valuable to the team as trade bait.
So all we know as fans at the moment is Brandon Jackson is getting rave reviews, Ryan Grant wants more money and Kregg Lumpkin has proved so far to be a good addition to the backfield. The full back situation might be interesting come training camp with the likes of one healthy Ryan Powdrell.
